[Sorry for repost, tech. problems] (1Tim. 6:13) I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession.
Does St. Paul joke? How he compares two incomparable things: to give life to all things and just to testify a good confession before Pontius Pilate?
I deem that Paul has repeated a funny answer of some stupid pupil who was examined for his faith.
But this is not a nonsense indeed. To testify a good confession before Pontius Pilate is not simpler than to give life to all things! To testify a good confession before Pontius Pilate is a very hard deal, as hard deal as to write genetic programs for all kind of living creatures and to give them life!
It is a very hard deal because Pontius Pilate was a maniacal killer with state authority, see the following verse for biblical confirmation of this: (Luk. 13:1) ... told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices...
The words testify a good confession means to say it is good. Jesus essentially has said it is good staying before a judge which was a maniacal killer. To find good in so bad situation is as hard as to give life to all things! Can you explain what is good in the situation of being judged by a maniacal killer yet under pressure of bad people seeking false testimonies to put you to death?
Jesus Christ indeed has found good in this bad situation, he has sacrificed himself to death and by his death did even more that by his life.
Only one who gives life to all things can find good in a so bad situation. Testifying a good confession before Pontius Pilate, Jesus has proved that He, Jesus, is not just a man but God in human flesh. Only God who has created life knows life so well that He can find good in what seemed a so silly death.
So, what Paul really has said, that Jesus is God, one who gives life to all things, but it was not noticeable that Jesus is God, because Jesus was in human form and acted in humility.
